Biking in Acadia National Park, Maine

With 45 miles of auto-free carriage roads for you and your family to explore, biking in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, Maine is a favorite activity of many visitors. For guests who are not planning on traveling to Bar Harbor with bicycles, there are several area bike shops with rentals available. The Island Explorer is a complimentary, propane-powered shuttle that can take you and your bike into the park. Carriage road maps can be found on the Acadia National Park website.

Hiking Trails in Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park, Maine features over 120 miles of scenic hiking trails for visitors of all skill levels. From easy shore paths along the coastline to strenuous mountain trails for avid hikers, you are sure to discover a variety of trails everyone in your party can enjoy. While the hiking trails in Acadia are extremely scenic, they are also fairly short. The average one-way length is approximately one mile, with trails totaling two or more miles being extremely rare.

Harborside guests looking for a more challenging experience should note that many of Acadia's hiking trails intersect with each other, forming a complex network that allows avid hikers to create loops over large areas of the island. The trails in Acadia are well marked, but successfully combining trails will require a good map, which can be purchased at numerous locations around Mount Desert Island.
