Route 1A in Ellsworth is Now Under Construction
MaineDOT is reconstructing a seven-mile stretch of Route 1A in Ellsworth to improve mobility and safety along this busy corridor. The work of removing existing pavement, grading and repaving this road is underway and will continue through the fall of 2010. The entire stretch will receive an additional layer of pavement in the spring of 2011 and the project will be completed by July, 2011. If you are headed to the DownEast or Acadia Regions, plan ahead. Directions to The
Harborside Hotel in Bar Harbor

From Ellsworth: (30 minutes)
Follow Route 3 East 10 miles. Once you cross the causeway to Mt Desert Island, follow Route 3 to the left at the stoplight. Follow Route 3 for another 9 miles, turning left on West Street, (the first intersection past the College of the Atlantic). The hotel is on the left approximately ¾ of a mile.

From Bangor: (1 hour)
Follow Route 1A South to Ellsworth. Continue straight as Route 1A becomes Route 3 East. (Use directions from Ellsworth).

From Portland: (3 hours)
Take I-95 North (partial toll road). Take exit 182A (I-395 East) toward US-1A/Brewer. Take exit 6A to 1A toward Ellsworth (Use directions from Bangor).

From Boston: (5 hours)
Follow I-93 North to exit 37A for I-95 North (partial toll road). I-95 will pass through New Hampshire and enter Maine). Follow I-95 to exit 182A (I-395 East). Take exit 6A for 1A toward Ellsworth (use directions from Bangor).

Traveling along 1 from Portland: (4 hours)
Take I-295 North to exit 28 for 1 North toward the Coastal Route. Stay on 1 North as it connects with Route 3 North. Follows the signs for Route 3 as it passes through Ellsworth and onto Mount Desert Island. Bear left once on island towards Bar Harbor, then turn left onto West St at the first intersection after the College of the Atlantic (about 9 miles). Turn left into our driveway at the bottom of the hill.

TRANSPORTATION

Bar Harbor Regional Airport (BHB) is located 25 minutes from the hotel. The taxi fare is approximately $25 one way.

Bangor Airport (BGR) is located 65 minutes from the hotel. The taxi fare is approximately $125 one way.

BH Airport has Hertz rental cars.
